Depression

In a valley off the Nile River, there was a mother, father, and son. This family was very kind and helpful. The mother would feed the poor, the father would advise the chief and help run the errands, even though it was not his occupation. And now it comes down to the boy, Kilik. At the noble age of 17, he was very courageous, willing, and kind.

This boy was also very strong. He was kind to everyone, but the person he loved the most, beyond any love you have ever seen, was his aunt. Whenever she met Kilik, she would give him many gifts and an aweful lot of love. The boy would, of course, show the same love back.

One day, when Kilik woke up, he heard screams. He then noticed the strange smell of smoke. Something was afoot. It was fire. He ran into the kitchen and was panic-stricken. It was a fire, a fire with flames so bright it was blinding. A fire so terrible it went higher up than the trees! He could hear a person coughing and gasping for breath. He looked at the source and saw that it was his beloved aunt. He was shocked.

Being the courageous boy that he was, he rushed into the fire and retrieved his severely burned aunt.

"NO! Aunt Zambakawa! Please dont leave me! Please be ok! Aunt Zamba! Please!"
His Aunt replied, "Is it you, Kilik? I knew it from your beautiful voice." Kilik wept.
"Do not weep, my beloved nephew. After this terrible life ends, I will be in a much much better place than this corrupt world, and someday you might join me."
Kilik said, "Please dont talk like this, Auntie! Everything will be alright! You wont d-d-die! When you go to the hospital, you will return in good shape!" His aunt smiled.
"No, my nephew. I shall leave. You will be joyous, for I will be well in the afterlife. Do not think of me, as you would be even more depressed. Set your mind to help your parents. Goodbye my nephew! Return to your other family, and we may meet again some other day."
She closed her eyes. At last, she stopped moving. She had gone home.
Kilik yelled "NOOOOOOO! AUNTIE! NO!!!!"
Weary and hot, he fell down and sank into unconsciousness.

When he woke up, a sad face, a doctor, greeted him. The doctor gave a weak smile.
"I am sorry" the doctor said. "We did the best we could. Your mother has...left."
Kilik was stunned.
"No...No! NO! IT CANT BE! MOTHER! NO!"
Kilik ran from room to room, searching for his mother's room. When he found it, he saw his father weeping. He ran into the room.
"Mother....."
His father looked at him, and Kilik stared back. They hugged.

After the burial of both his aunt and his mother, he could stand it no more. He decided he had to go. He went into the kitchen and took a butcher knife. He ran into the forest. He was about to strike the blade into his chest when he remembered what his aunt had said.
"Set your mind to help your parents... Return to your other family, and we may meet again some other day..."
He lowered the knife.

"I shall stick to your words, my beloved Aunt. They will always stay in my mind."

He turned around and went home.
